First photoshoot tips – How to get a great profile pic!
So you’ve got your first photoshoot coming up. You’re excited by having professional photos taken and getting glamed up BUT you have no idea what to do or how to pose.
Fear not! I’ve teamed up with Trevor and Stephanie over at Phlash Worx studios to give you their photo shoot tips – how to prepare and their secrets for getting the best possible pics!
FIRST PHOTO SHOOT TIPS
GET A GREAT PROFILE PICTURE!
1) CHECK OUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER’S PORTFOLIO
Does the photographer match the style you are looking for? Are their images going to benefit you?
By taking a look at the photographers past work you can also learn some different poses that you can try on your shoot
Communicate with the photographer, make up artist and hair stylist. Find out what images they want and what you need. For example your outfits will need to suit the kind of make up they are planning to do.
Also ask questions like if you should bring any accessories, how many shoes, outfits etc
3) BRING PROPS
Again communicate with everyone and say what kind of photos you are looking for. For example I’m always looking for presenter type shots – so I will bring props such as a microphone, headphones, my camera, laptop.
Here’s my camera as a prop! I use these photos on my filming business website
Getting great shots is not just down to the photographer or make up artist – it is also down to YOU!
Pretend the camera isn’t there so you get lots more natural shots. Just go for it and be confident – don’t feel silly or get worried about what you may look like. The more comfortable and relaxed you are the more likely your shots will be stunning.
5) LISTEN TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
I’ve been on lot’s of shots where the photographer will give you lots of poses to do. Some of them may feel VERY unnatural but when you see the photos you’ll understand why. Stephanie the make up artist in this video said ‘If you need to see a chiropractor after your photoshoot then you’ve done great!!!’
6) THE MAGIC POSE
Trevor the photographer taught me this great magic pose that really defines your jawline. Push your forehead towards the camera and keep the rest of your body back.
It feels a little strange when you do it but any shots of your face will look great – it gets rid of any excess weight you may have under your chin!
Convey emotions in your facial expressions and poses. My default pose is a big smile – so this can be a challenge for me!
Try and do a little squint in your eyes too – I am also rubbish at this! Why don’t you try different poses and emotions in front of your mirror – practice your poses.
Any emotions you can put into your expressions will create a much better picture
8) HAVE FUN
This is probably the most important photo shoot tip. Unless your a professional model you don’t go on photoshoots every day, so embrace it and ENJOY YOURSELF!
Even if you are an aspiring model you still should have fun – this is the job you love so show people you love it!
A BIG thank you to the wonderful Stephanie and Trevor of Phlash Worx studios for all their photoshoot tips.
